Inside the Grand Navigator Suite at Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort

When the Outrigger brand announced the plans for its flagship property’s grand renovation, travelers who love visiting Hawaii held their breaths in excited anticipation … and they weren’t disappointed.

As TravelBlogue covered in 2021, the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort’s upgrades by award-winning architect and design firm Hart Howerton wowed travelers with tasteful beach house upgrades, plentiful references to Hawaiian’s culture and Pwo navigator history, and expanded accommodation options.

… Which brings us to the Grand Navigator Suite on the Grand Navigator Floor at this hotel and resort.

What’s the Grand Navigator Suite?

Take everything that comes to mind when you think of a luxury high-rise penthouse guestroom overlooking the ocean … then multiply it. That’s where we’ll start.

In stats, the Grand Navigator Suite is a two bathroom, two-bedroom top floor accommodation with over 1,400 square feet to explode your suitcase across. We love that both of the private bedrooms have their own ocean view balconies, which is ideal for people traveling with another couple, their parents, or kids – you may love the folks you’re vacationing with, but that doesn’t mean a breather isn’t nice once in a while!

But when you’re ready to regroup, there’s a large exterior deck with wide-spanning ocean views of world-famous Waikiki Beach to sprawl out on under a warm Hawaiian sun. You can access this space through floor-to-ceiling lanai doors, or stay in the separate living area to enjoy the view from the air-conditioned comfort of the great indoors. This living room also has a queen-sized sofa sleeper if you really want to max out the capacity for the room rate, plus a loveseat and additional seating for downtime. The lavish dining area with room for six and a granite buffet offer even more places to take a load off.

However, some of the best features of this room category may actually be outside of the accommodation. By that, we mean club access to Voyager 47 Club, which means free Hawaiian-style breakfast and premium Kona coffee to wash down this robust start to any day and premium beverages and cocktails and pupu (appetizers) with island flavors in the evening. This value is estimated to sit at $200 a night … possibly more if you factor in the unlimited craft beer and wine!

Okay, so what’s the Grand Navigator Floor?

What isn’t it? That would provide the shorter answer! Because this entire floor of incredibly upgraded suites is one of the most over-the-top experiences a luxury traveler to Hawaii could possibly wish for.

It’s made up of four Grand Navigator Suites for a total of five bedrooms, all situated on the top floor of the Pacific Tower. Booking the floor quintuples your space to 3,750 square feet – more than enough for 18 guests for a truly unforgettable family reunion, large groups of friends, or those attending or hosting a destination wedding. Even bigger, if you can even imagine such a thing, is the largest private lanai in the city, which sits at a whopping 4,000 square feet! To put that in context, the average American home is roughly 2,014 square feet on average.

Far from average, however, are the floor-to-ceiling doors that separate the massive lanai from the living spaces, which feature couches and pull-out sofas, tables and chairs for expansive dining space, and more.

All of this gathering space makes it ideal not only for large families, but also corporate events or retreats. Reunions of all kinds, such as between sororities and fraternities are also ideally suited for this kind of immersive communal living.

Bottom Line

This entire floor was part of the 2021 revitalization, so Hawaii vacationers who love their trappings shiny and new have a unique opportunity with the Grand Navigator accommodations. It’s not often that those visiting this popular island destination have new builds to stay in and this is one of the most recent and modern luxury upgrades in Waikiki, if not Oahu.
